Thanks for sharing that story. John Burton was certainly colorful. I used to play squash at the Bay Club in San Francisco regularly and Burton through attrition became the only racquetball player left there, apart from a couple of his buddies. The club wanted to convert the last racquetball court to squash but Burton, who was very powerful politically, basically told management that it would be a very bad idea to remove his racquetball court. The club wisely left it in place. Burton would hold court in the men’s locker room after his game, naked and swearing profusely.
